Last Minute Boxing Bookie Play! Shumenov-Uzelkov on ESPN Friday Night Fights Tonight!
by John Chavez

Jul 23, 2010 -

There's only a few hours until ESPN Friday Night Fight kicks off and "The Boxing Bookie" is itching for some action.

It's been quite a while since I've made a play on a fight and I just cannot help myself but make a play today.

The main event on ESPN Friday Night Fights is a light heavyweight title fight between Beibut Shumenov and Viacheslav Uzelkov. It guarantees to deliver in terms of fireworks as Shumenov is a defensively limited, hard-punching free swinger that looks to force his punching power and will on his opponent. On the flip side of the coin, Uzelkov has disposed of 6 of his last 7 opponents within 6 rounds.

Based on the stylistic match-up of this fight coupled with the 90 degree climate at the outdoor stadium in Lemoore, California, the only way I see this fight is that it will not see the distance.

Here are the current odds on the match-up:

Light heavyweight 12 rounds - Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino, Lemoore, California - ESPN2
Fri 7/23
101 Beibut Shumenov
 -145   o9½ -125
10:30PM

Fri 7/23
103 Shumenov/Uzelkov goes distance

 +243
10:30PM
106 Not Shumenov inside distance    -307
Fri 7/23
107 Shumenov wins by 12 rnd decision
 +215
10:30PM
108 Not Shumenov by 12 rnd decision    -275
Fri 7/23

Fri 7/23
111 Uzelkov wins by 12 rnd decision
 +724
10:30PM
112 Not Uzelkov by 12 rnd decision    -1335
Fri 7/23
113 Shumenov/Uzelkov draw
 +2500
10:30PM
114 Fight not a draw    -4000

The line that I believe stands out in this fight is the under play. The over/under for this 12 round affair has been set at 9.5 rounds by the line-maker and it will be a tough line to beat but based on Shumenov's punching power and lack of defense coupled with Uzelkov's steady pressure style looking to land heavy blows, it could be a good one.

I'll be betting $200 to win $210 on this bet.

It might not be the best bet of 2010 but it's a solid one... at least in my eyes.

If we pull off this victory, that would have continued "The Boxing Bookie's" 8 fight win streak and increase our bankroll to $11,400 from the original $10,000 January 1st, 2010.
