Carl Froch vs. Arthur Abraham is Happening... Pacquiao-Mayweather Can Wait
by John Chavez

Jul 20, 2010 -

If both sides can't find a way to make it a reality... so be it.

There are other mega-fights that are taking place in 2010 and it's completely disrespectful to the rest of the hard-working, real fighters out there to be overshadowed by the biggest egos in the business... Bob Arum and Floyd Mayweather Jr.

October 2 in Monaco, a small sovereign city-state located in South Western Europe, the biggest, most brutal fight of the Super-Six tournament will take place between Carl "The Cobra" Froch and "King" Arthur Abraham. This is a fight that will be titled... "Last of the Gladiators".

These two warriors in Froch and Abraham signify all that is right in boxing.

Both men are cognizant of putting on crowd-pleasing performances and both men are most importantly brave enough to lay it out there all on the line for themselves as well as their fans.

If there was one bout in 2010 in which you should encourage non-boxing fans to tune into, October 2 is the night to do so.

It's a fight that you will be neither embarrassed or ashamed of doing so as a long-time boxing fan who must consistently defend their sport from the naysayers.

For just one day out of the year, Pacquiao-Mayweather will take a backseat to a fight so violent that it reminds even the old-time boxing fans of the days of Jake Lamotta and Rocky Marciano. For just one day... you as a boxing fan can sit back and be proud to say that you follow this beautifully maniacal sport.

It's the beauty of a tournament style affair... it's only a matter of time before the real fighters end up clashing and we have a combustible train-wreck on our hands ala Jose Luis Castillo-Diego "Chico" Corrales (rip).

If Pacquiao doesn't have enough balls to stand up to Bob Arum and say... "The only fight I want you to make is Floyd Mayweather Jr. and I want you to keep your ugly mouth shut until it's made"... so be it.

If Floyd Mayweather Jr. doesn't have enough pride to overlook Arum's shitty media games and say... "Forget Bob's pettiness, I'd love to decapitate his crown jewel to prove to the hundreds of millions of fans that want to see this fight that to mention Manny Pacquiao in the same breath as myself, is a disgrace to breathing"... so be it.

If Ross Greenburg can't find a way to exert the supposed influence he has over the sport he has largely subsidized over the past decade... so be it.

As long as Arthur Abraham and Carl Froch lace them up October 2nd in Monaco... boxing will continue trudging forward.

The fight between an Armenian assassin based out of Germany and a Nottingham warrior from the UK taking place in Monaco is about as American as you can get. Both fighter's pride is on the line, both fighter's countries will be backing them to win, and both fighters tournament life is at stake. They're both coming off losses they feel they could have possibly won and both are entering the battleground with a nasty mean streak inside of them.

Yes... Froch-Abraham is the most meaningful fight of 2010.

Please believe that!
