A Poem for Lorraine Chargin
by Chris Bowers

Jul 01, 2010 -
Dear Lorraine,

I had the pleasure of meeting you back in 2001,
That's when our friendship had only just begun...

You wanted everything to be just perfect for Don's induction day that year,
Your excitement kept rising as your true love's special day grew near...

We spent many hours talking on the phone, making sure every detail was worked out just right,
I remember thinking of you and smiling as I drove home from the Hall of Fame late at night...

That Wednesday afternoon finally arrived in June,
I was so anxious that I would be meeting the two of you very soon...

The first sight I had of you and Don brought a thrill to my heart,
I said to myself, don't worry you fulfilled your part...

We hugged and we kissed, we put voices to a face,
That was a pecial moment in my life that I will always embrace...

You were so thankful and gracious for all that was done,
You pullled out all of those purses and scarves, and we really had a lot of fun...

A special bracelet was made for you that following year,
The birthstones of you and your lover were so powerfully clear...

The admiration and strength was so apparent between you both,
You amazed so many people, wondering how you made each second count the most...

You're humor and gestures and the tilt of your head,
I will always remember certain things that you said...

Your special kisses and hugs every time we crossed paths,
I never saw it coming that these precious moments would not last...

I know one thing for sure that you were the classiest couple I've ever met,
Not seeing you together again, is something I will always regret...

I wish I had given you just one more hug last June,
Ijust took it for granted that I would be seeing you again soon...

You are a true friend that I ave grown to love over the years that have passed,
The fond memories of you will always last...

I'm so sorry for the pain and the suffering you that you had,
You were so positive and upbeat and never wanted anyone to feel sad...

Your life was cut short I really must say,
I would give anything to have you here with us today...

The pain and the anguish that so many feel is more than you know,
It's so hard for all of us to now let you go...

The sorrow right now is so hard to bear,
This tragedy is all so unfair...

I know that you are now lookiing down from the heavens above,
Bestowing on Don, all of your family and friends your uconditional love...

You will be missed as a loving wife and such a dear friend,
All of your hearts are with you until the day we meet again...

Love you always, Chris Bowers

PS. The Boxing Truth echoes the sentiments of Mrs. Bowers. Lorraine Chargin was and still is an all-time great in life as she was in boxing. Our only hope is that next year the International Boxing Hall of Fame gets it correct and rightfully inducts her. Cheers to Lorraine as her spirit still lives very strongly in the hearts of the lucky people that had the pleasure of actually getting to know her inner-workings.
